Novena Square Shopping mall is one of my favourite hangout places. There are several shops that I love visiting to purchase my sports related items. Located right above the Novena MRT station, it has been revamped in 2006 to Velocity @ Novena Square. Other than hosting stores of varies product stores, the new wing of 3 storeys added to it has elevated it to a dedicated sports & lifestyle mall in Singapore.

During our time in school, Queensway Shopping centre was the place that we used to patronise when we need to purchase sports and active-lifestyle related products. Therefore I thought it was quite a brilliant position that Novena Square shopping mall has embarked on to distinguish itself from other 2 shopping malls nearby. Quite a niche market in sports rather than another mall selling fashion wear and hosting F&B trades.

Due to its sports and lifestyle theme, the mall is very popular with youth and young families. It is especially packed during weekends, that you can see many people flowing in from the nearby churches.

The magnet of the mall is the regularly held sports themed event. Today I went to pick up the racing pack of 100 plus Passion Card Race. I signed up for the 10km race. This is the first time participating in this event. This race is to be held on 22 May 2010, next Saturday at East Coast. I find it rather weird to race at 4pm in the afternoon, while the weather must be scorching hot.

Around 11am, the queue waiting to collect the racing packs was so long that it went all the way to outside the mall. Fortunately the situation improved after lunch time. However the hall was still packed with people.

The mall has established itself successfully as the venue for various ports events in Singapore such as NBA Madness Asia Tour, Beach Volleyball Competitions, 40th Singapore International Open – Step Ladder Finals for bowling, etc. Not forgetting to mention that its has the 26,000 sqf gym run by California Fitness which really makes it a must visit for people leading a healthy lifestyle:)
